Roy Cooper is a Democratic party member and 75th Governor of North Carolina. He assumed the Governor’s office in Jan 2017, after winning the election 2016.
Cooper is running for re-election for Governor, the elections will be held in November 2020. He won the Democratic primaries held in March 2020 with 87.2% against Ernest Reeves.
In gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 2020, he will be contesting against Republican candidate Dan Forest.

Roy Cooper was born on 13th June 1957 in Nashville, North Carolina. His father Roy Asberry Cooper, Jr.was a lawyer and mother Beverly Thorne Cooper was a teacher.
Roy’s parents lived in Nashville, while his father practiced law his mother was a school teacher in Nash County School teaching French and English.
His father passed away in 2014 and his mother in November 2013. Both died peacefully surrounded by their family at their home in Nashville.
Roy is married to Kristin Cooper who is also a Democratic Party member. Being the first lady of North Carolina she is working on may social causes. Including foster care, child abuse and neglect, childhood hunger, and literacy. She is working towards a goal to visit all 100 counties in North Carolina to understand the ground issues.

Education & Career
Roy completed his schooling from public school. He graduated from Northern Nash Senior High School in 1975.
During his schooling, he helped his father with his tobacco farm. His father was a lawyer and a farmer from Nashville.
He went to pursue his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For the undergraduate degree, he won a scholarship from Morehead Scholarship.
He was active in student politics since his college days and was elected university’s Young Democrats.
In 1982 he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
He has been active in politics since 1985.
He was elected Member of the North Carolina House of Representatives from the 72nd district in 1987 and his term ended in 1991.
1991 he became Member of the North Carolina Senate from the 10th district until 2001 he was holding the office.
In 2001 he was elected 49th Attorney General of North Carolina he served the office 2017 and resigned after he became a Governor.
